A FEW KEY TERMS
Online Presence
Your online presence is a term that refers to all the places that information about your business or brand exists online. That may seem like an incredibly small or large amount of information to sort through depending on the current state of your brand’s online presence, so we have pinpointed the platforms and steps you can focus taking to quickly and easily drive more impressions to your site from Google.
Average Position
This is the average of the placement of your website or profile from the top placement of 1 in Google search. Note: there are about 10 results per page, so to find the average page, just divide the average position by 10.
Click
This is the amount of times that visitors clicked through to your site or profile from a Google search.
Click Through Rate
The number of clicks divided by the number of impressions. This gauges the quality of your Google impressions.
Monthly Search Volume
This is the number of searches for a given keyword for a month. It’s important to target keywords in your content that have a substantial search volume – if no one is searching for your target keywords, then no one will find your content. What is “substantial” will depend on trends in your industry and is usually determined by looking at a long list of keyword data and sorting it by monthly search volume.
Impression
How often your website or profile is shown as a result to a Google query. An impression is counted each time your website or profile is shown on a search result page. This position of the impression determines it’s quality – the higher up the impression is in search, the more likely it is to become a click.
Visit
A visit is counted when a visitor arrives at your website. A visit counts each time a visitor navigates to the site.
Visitor
This is someone who goes to/views your website.
STEP 1: KEYWORD RESEARCH
Start with figuring out exactly what your ideal customers are searching for online when they are looking for products or services like yours.
Our team utilizes Keywords Everywhere to gather data on the Monthly Search Volume, Cost Per Click, and Competition of various target keywords. We begin with a few educated guesses (depending on industry) and then build that list based on the recommended keywords from Keywords Everywhere.
You will want to build your keyword list in a program like Excel or Google Sheets so that you can sort it based on monthly search volume. You are looking for which keyword combination will put you in front of the largest amount of appropriate people in Google search. That means that want keywords with higher Monthly Search Volume, but you also don’t want to utilize keywords that are too broad for your target audience.


STEP 2: SET UP GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE
Start with the top ten pages on your website.
But what about the other pages? If you have more than ten, put them on your “when I have time” list and leave it for when you finish these steps. Honestly, you will have so many more ideas of how to improve them for SEO by the time you finish this process that it’s better to wait anyway.
